Description

We are creating a new Research Development Team (RDT) in the Biological Sciences Division to manage and facilitate the pre-award phase of grant submission, providing research development support to teams of investigators leading large-scale scientific grant proposals. The goal is to decrease the administrative burden of submitting large grant proposals, to stimulate more science at the interface of different disciplines and to transcend traditional departmental boundaries. We are excited to be committing resources to support more far-reaching research proposals and to help increase our visibility and position as scientific leaders.

The Scientific Grant Writer & Editor will provide science writing and editorial expertise and support the Office of the Dean and the Division’s efforts to plan, build and sustain research programs of academic excellence.

Employees in the RDT can work on-site, hybrid, or be fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Provides science writing and editorial expertise; provides research development support to teams of investigators leading large-scale scientific grant proposals (e.g., NIH P01, P30, P50, and cooperative agreements U19, U54, etc.).

  • Write initial drafts and/or provide templates of management and mentoring plans, institutional resources, and other administrative sections of grant proposals, working closely with investigators and departmental administration.

  • Developmental editing of scientific sections of proposals, editing for clarity, consistency, flow, and length.

  • Work closely with pre-award grant & contract administrators, faculty, other RDT members, and science illustrators, to ensure efficient facilitation of proposal submission process.

  • Help foster new collaborations and interactions amongst faculty from different Departments, different Divisions, and from different areas of focus (e.g., basic researchers and clinicians, experimental and computational scientists etc.) in preparation for and well ahead of any proposal deadlines.



Requirements

Required: 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred: PhD in STEM-related field; experience working with faculty in an academic setting; familiarity with academic values and culture; experience working with NIH program projects or cooperative agreements (e.g., P30, P50, U19, U54 etc).
